Two-part mentoring for doctoral candidates in the social sciences
Group 1: Monday, 23 October, and Monday, 4 December 2023, 16:00–19:00
Group 2: Tuesday, 24 October, and Tuesday, 21 November 2023, 15:00–18:00
Group 3: Monday, 23 October, and Monday, 20 November 2023, 10:00–13:00
This mentoring supports you in developing a doctoral thesis project in a moderated peer-to-peer setting and prepares you for the public presentation at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FÖP). A coach and peers provide feedback on the research design of your doctoral thesis project, the theoretical framework you plan to build on and the methodology you intend to use, thereby helping you to develop your research proposal.
Participants will work in small groups led by a postdoctoral researcher or an advanced doctoral candidate from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Each group will meet twice during the winter semester of 2023/24 with several weeks in between meetings.
Target group: The mentoring is open to student members of the Vienna Doctoral School of Social Sciences (ViDSS), especially to doctoral candidates who have registered for the course FK Introduction Course: From Research Idea to a Successful Public Presentation. If places are available, doctoral candidates in the Social Sciences who are not (yet) members of the ViDSS can join the mentoring.
Venue: Meeting Room of the Vienna Doctoral School of Social Sciences, OG01 (seminar room 11), Kolingasse 14–16, 1090 Vienna (both sessions group 1 and first session group 2); Conference Room of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Neues Institutsgebäude (NIG), 6th floor, staircase III (room C628A), Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Vienna (second session group 2 and both sessions group 3).
Registration: via e-mail to roman.pfefferle@univie.ac.at until 8 October 2023 (Please state your field of research/discipline). Please note that participants need to submit a first draft of their research proposal one week before the first meeting with the mentor (16 October 2023).
