Publication Strategies in the Social Sciences
Monday, 17 June 2024, 12:00–14:00
The workshop focuses on appropriate writing strategies to prepare manuscripts for publication in the social sciences. The workshop will focus on journals, but – if time permits and demands dictates – also discuss differences in writing styles of manuscripts intended for academic journals versus university presses for a book manuscript (or book proposal).
The first half of the workshop will discuss the “don’ts” of preparing papers for journals when Wolfgang C. Müller as the editor of West European Politics will provide suggestions on the basis of his editorial experience. The second half will cover how to properly craft the opening pages of a manuscript intended for submission to a journal. The premise is that reviewers often know by the end of the introduction how they will evaluate a manuscript.
As part of the workshop, participants should upload to moodle the introduction of a paper, or a book prospectus.
