Her strong commitment to graduate training was evident in the fact that she was part of the initial taskforce that set up the ViDSS, going on to serve two terms as its deputy speaker and as deputy director of doctoral studies at the faculty from 2020 to 2024. Following this period, she remained an active member of the ViDSS steering committee and the Doctoral Advisory Board for Development Studies.
Professor Staritz brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the training of doctoral candidates at the faculty, always seeking to help students navigate the challenges and joys of doctoral studies in the best possible ways. She played a key role in advancing a comprehensive programme for qualitative methods training at the doctoral school and was instrumental in developing our now well-established module that prepares doctoral candidates for their public presentation to the faculty. In addition, she offered courses in her areas of expertise, including a graduate seminar on power and uneven development in the global economy. Both colleagues and students benefitted so much from the insights and dedication of this brilliant scholar.
Cornelia was a very special person with unending energy and enthusiasm for research that made a difference in the world. We will miss her terribly and hold her memory dear. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.
A public condolence book has been set up online, please follow this link if you would like to contribute.
